I know what you are saying re HI because I experienced the same thing. I thought HI would be paradise. Yes, it was beautiful but there is more to life than beaches and sunsets. What I missed most (and what drove us mainland) was a lack of connection. I missed my friends and family so much that I felt lost and sad. After 4 1/2 yrs. we came back.
It’s interesting how living in paradise but on a speck of land in the middle of the ocean can become isolating more than one would think. If not for the floods and landslides, I wonder if we would still be there now. But the cost has increased dramatically due to those same things and probably would have become prohibitive.
We’ve never looked back with regret. And our friendship would not have achieved the depth we have now. 💛💜
